Large Mechanical Works – Part of the United Utilities Capital Programme
The aim of the works was to extend the storm capacity of a sewage treatment plant, utilising redundant sludge holding tanks.
As well as the tanks needing to be prepared for use and modifications to the existing storm overflow system, a large diameter balancing pipe had to be installed between to the sets of tanks which required 800mm diameter diamond core drilling and cutting operations along with large scale excavations and earth moving works. These individual elements required detailed design and planning to ensure the pipework was installed at the correct levels and angles to suit the operation
This project was completed in time and under budget which enables the plant operators to satisfy environmental obligations.
